WannaCry ransomware is a type of malicious software that encrypts files on a computer, making them inaccessible until a ransom is paid. It spreads through vulnerabilities in outdated versions of Microsoft Windows by exploiting a flaw known as EternalBlue, which was leaked by a hacker group called Shadow Brokers. WannaCry is particularly dangerous because it has the ability to rapidly infect a large number of computers connected to the same network. Additionally, once a system is infected, WannaCry can spread to other vulnerable systems within the network, causing widespread damage and disruption.
