Ransomware groups use master keys for decryption in case they need to provide a decryption key to victims, especially in cases where the original encryption key is lost or compromised. While the use of master keys does introduce a critical point of failure since the security of these keys is crucial, it is a risk some ransomware groups are willing to take in order to maintain control over the decryption process and potentially facilitate payment from victims.
