Victims of ransomware attacks may not always report the incidents to law enforcement for several reasons including fear of negative publicity, concerns about potential legal implications, lack of confidence in law enforcement’s ability to resolve the issue, potential loss of sensitive data or intellectual property, and the belief that paying the ransom is the quickest way to regain access to their data.
This lack of reporting significantly impacts the fight against cybercrime as it hampers law enforcement’s ability to gather accurate data on the scale and nature of ransomware attacks, limits their ability to track and apprehend cybercriminals, and overall reduces the effectiveness of efforts to combat cybercrime.
