Firewalls play a crucial role in cloud security by monitoring and controlling incoming and outgoing network traffic based on predetermined security rules. In modern cloud environments, traditional firewalls may not always be enough due to the dynamic and scalable nature of cloud infrastructure. Next-generation firewalls, which include features like deep packet inspection, intrusion detection and prevention, and application-aware capabilities, are often recommended for better security in modern cloud environments. Additionally, cloud-specific security measures such as cloud access security brokers (CASBs) and cloud security posture management (CSPM) tools are also commonly used to enhance security in the cloud.
