Multi-factor authentication (MFA) helps prevent phishing attacks by adding an extra layer of security beyond just a password. Typically, MFA requires users to provide two or more different factors to verify their identity, such as a password, a code sent to their mobile device, fingerprint scan, or security token. This makes it more difficult for attackers to gain unauthorized access even if they manage to obtain a user’s password through a phishing attempt.
MFA is effective in preventing phishing attacks because it greatly reduces the chances of unauthorized access, even if one factor (like a password) is compromised. Attackers would need to bypass multiple layers of security, significantly increasing the complexity of a successful phishing attack. This added layer of protection makes it much harder for attackers to impersonate users and access sensitive information or systems.
